Through BSM, found a place to worship and serve God.

I have been greatly influenced by the BSM during my first year at UNT! I was saved when I was in kindergarten and have grown up in church my whole life. I began to be serious about my faith around the time I entered high school. I had an amazing youth group which helped me grow and yearn more and more for the God I love. It was a very tough decision to choose which college I was going to go to. My friend Allison called me one night during my senior year of high school and told me that she had been praying and God told her she was supposed to go to UNT.

I was very excited for her because God clearly gave her an answer to her prayers. I was frustrated because I did not feel like I was getting any kind of answer at all. I had never considered going to UNT before that, but Allison mentioned that we could be roommates and she would always talk about how much fun that would be. I soon narrowed my choices down to UNT and Dallas Baptist University. After much prayer and guidance from my parents I chose to come to UNT. Allison and I were planning on rooming together which ended up completely falling apart because they would not let us switch into each other’s dorms. I was extremely upset about that but found peace in the fact that I knew God had a plan. I came to UNT and met my current roommate, Ivette.

I knew from the beginning Ivette was a blessing sent from God. We have both been able to challenge and encourage each other in our walks with God. I have learned so much from her and she has become one of my best friends. When planning for next year (my sophomore year) came around I was planning on rooming with Allison again, and she made the decision to transfer schools. I was completely bummed that it was not working out again. I was very confused as to why God would tell her so clearly to come to UNT and then just take her away from here to another school. It did not make sense. But honestly, why would I ever think for a second that I needed to understand everything God does? After a lot of prayer about Allison leaving I realized why she was here. She was the reason I came to UNT. She was the reason I came to the BSM. Without her I would have never known about the BSM and even if I did, I would have never had the courage to show up alone. God placed Allison here for me, to get me here and to help me become a part of the BSM. God, through the BSM, has done wonders for me. It has challenged me spiritually and has provided a wonderful environment where I can worship and learn about God. I have met almost all of my friends through the Baptist Student Ministry and am so thankful for each and every one of them. I know I found where God wants me to be and I am so fulfilled by doing His work through the BSM. I am so excited to continue being a part of what God is doing here and can’t wait to see what else He has in store for me.
