70 from the 70s – 1970s Alumni Reception

This past Saturday, we were honored to host a reception for our 1970s alums. We had a great turnout with over 70 people in attendance. It was great to get to hear stories about how God used the BSM to impact their lives. It was obvious that the friendships made during their time at UNT were extremely meaningful as we watched them reconnect with one another.

few things bring me more joy than watching ministry collide with the lives of the students i get to serve. it’s like you can visibly see the lightbulb explode when something clicks in the middle of a spiritual conversation.

the lessons God teaches me through the conversations i have with students astound me, and i’m so thankful for the opportunity to do what i do.

we’re rapidly approaching august… which means the fall semester is less than a month away. i’ve been planning, praying, preparing… all in attempt to align our ministry with what God wants to do on our campus.

may God find me faithful as we prepare to serve and share His Gospel.

Brie – Go Now Missions Update

Brie, serving this summer at Mission Arlington, “We have summer program in one apartment every Monday Wednesday and Friday. One of the girls who lives there comes every time we are there. We recently took the kids to a day camp, and we weren’t surprised when this particular girl came along. She always listens to the Bible study, and memorizes the verses in order to get a extra snack. At Rainbow Express, like VBS, in the apartments one of the summer missionaries from Mission Arlington began talking to her about the lesson. She was listening even more closely this time. The summer missionary continued to answer all her questions. The girl said she wanted to ask Jesus into her heart. Her prayer was one of the most heartfelt things I have ever heard. She said she wanted to love God with all she is for her whole life.”

Over the past couple of months God has really been pressing into me not to worry about the thoughts of others. I really rely on how people look at me, and also how they see me as a person. God has really been working on my heart to rely on him and know that he is faithful and wonderful. It is beautiful when you come to that realization that God has it and that he is ultimate.

One other thing that I have been wrestling with is not worrying about tomorrow. I really have been resting in the verse in Matthew 6:34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” This is such a great verse to look at when worry rears its ugly head. This verse also is a great reminder that you might not have tomorrow, so you should take advantage of the day you have and use it to Gods glory.

I am really excited about the semester ahead with these students and in some way sharing with them what God has been doing in my life. Maybe a student is going through the same things I had been going through and God can use what has happened in my life to affect there’s.

I transferred here my sophmore year from UT Arlington after feeling out of place and lonely there. I had high hopes of loving UNT and was so excited to have a fresh start. However, I was also overwhelmed with doubts and insecurities. On move-in day I was greeted by 4 ”Bsmer’s” that helped me unload my car for which I was incredibly grateful. They were really friendly and started asking me if I had any plans for the night. Eager I said ”No!” in hopes that would turn into an invite. Lauren, one of the girls then invited me to a cook-out, one of the “First Flight” week events the BSM hosts during the first week for new students. I said, “sure” but in the back of my mind I was already wanting to back out. I figured I would get there and her friends would dump me after a few miinutes and I’d be left to find others–this had me feeling incredibly anxious. But I said ok anyways and she offered to pick me up. This made all the difference and showed me she really did want me to go. That night was the beginning of many more to come. I had fallen away from church during my freshman year at UTA and honestly, the BSM brought me back. I felt myself drifting from God my first year and if it wasn’t for the BSM, I may have been one of the many students that stops attended church after high school. I really am so incredibly grateful for what the BSM has meant to me. I found great fellowship, a fun place to be, a study spot, a place to serve and my very best friends
